Great episode! A cheap seam guide is to use a pad of post it notes. Tear off the bottom backing and then stick the whole pad with the bound edge at your seam width. The pad provides an edge you can use to guide your fabric against. If the sticky parts gets un-sticky, just tear off the bottom sheet and you have a new sticky surface.

Clover makes similar stick-on plastic guides. It is set of 2 and one has a curved edge for sewing curves. The stickiness can be refreshed by running under water and letting it dry. All the fine lint just washes off. I like these because I can stick them on the bed when I’m not using them. They are available when I need them.

Thanks for these wonderful tips, Judy!

The roller foot or “wheel barrow” foot can also be used with leather, faux leather, cork, netting, OR i use it with fleece or fake animal fur. You can push the fur to the left and hold it down with the wheel as you sew. Because it’s a wheel, it doesn’t grab the fur like the prongs of some feet. (These uses are in addition to the vinyl and plastic that you mentioned.)
I love your podcast. It keeps me sane AND happily sewing. I was actually changing feet on my Bernina as I sewed while listening.

Oh, this is such a great tip! Thank so much, Jane!
