Hi Helen & Caroline, I just discovered your podcast and am enjoying listening and learning. I especially appreciated your episode on bias tape, which is something that has intimidated me for years – even though I’m an intermediate sewist. But you motivated me to pull out a pattern that I had cut a year ago and just jump in to finish it with the necessary binding. I also discovered this awesome looking tool from Missouri Star Quilt Co.: https://www.missouriquiltco.com/shop/detail/2060/tqm-products/-/the-bias-ruler
So now I can’t wait to start making my own bias tape. Thanks so much for your knowledge and inspiration! All the best, Sue
Sue, we are excited to hear you are giving bias tape a go! It can be a great way to elevate a garment 🙂 That tool looks great too! We hope you have fun working with bias tape!
Hi ladies,
I wanted to leave a note about the listener email you read on this week’s podcast. The writer was asking for advice on fabric that seems to grow after cutting. I used to have this problem All. The. Time! but then I saw this video that Threads magazine posted on YouTube where Daryl Lancaster really broke down the correct way to staystitch and *why* doing it correctly makes a difference in the stretching out of fabrics. It was a huge game changer for me so I wanted to share in hopes it will be helpful for others as well.

I enjoy listening to you ladies inspire me as I sew. Thanks for all you do! 🙂

I was on a walk listening to your podcast on “Bias Tape” and I really was inspired to try all the different techniques! Thank you so much!
Also, I want to make a T-shirt that says “Buh Bias Tape!” With bias tape! Of course! Can we make it a thing! Lol!
I was laughing and giggling and walking listening to that! My neighbors probably think I’m nuts!
Thanks for being awesome!

OK, you can’t talk about bias tape and ways to use it without mentioning (and ogling) the bias tape DRESS sewn by Bianca of Thanks I Made Them! Literally the entire dress is bias strips sewn onto a backing fabric! I believe it won some awards too. https://thanksimadethem.blogspot.com/2016/03/the-bias-tape-dress-is-done-just-in.html
WOW! Thank you so much for sharing this Caroline! Bianca’s dress is SO inspiring!
This a very late post because I tend to listen in batches; but I wanted to share 2 thoughts:
1. I will buy fat quarters when they are on clearance at JoAnn’s and will make bias tape when I’m feeling extra anxious (it’s a great stress reliever!!).
2. Helen’s tutorial for making bias tape is awesome. I printed the table with the most common measurements and pinned it next to my cutting table!!.
Loved the episodes, you have given me so many ideas for the future!!!
Thanks so much for sharing your tips! We are happy to hear you enjoyed the episode 🙂
