Love to Sew Podcast’s Anti-Racism Action Plan
As a podcast of influence, Love to Sew has the opportunity to amplify marginalized voices in our community. We take this role seriously and are committing to this anti-racism action plan for our show and all other communications.
Recognizing our white privilege, we make a perpetual commitment to:
⠀
- Regularly and publicly donate money to charities and non-profit organizations that align with our anti-racist values
Each month, we will donate 10% of our revenue to causes that actively promote positive change. If there are charitable or non-profit organizations you’d like to recommend, please contact us at hello@lovetosewpodcast.com.
- Allocate time and money to further our own anti-racism education⠀
The Love to Sew podcast team wants to become better allies. Our active learning efforts will include completing anti-racism courses and exploring other resources such as books, articles, and film. We will dedicate time each month to discuss the lessons we’ve learned, and their implications for us as a team.
- Set the goal that 50% of our guests come from Black, Indigenous or People of Colour (BIPOC) communities.
While we always consider areas such as interest, age, gender, and ethnicity when selecting Love to Sew guests, we recognize it is important to deliberately look for more guests from BIPOC communities. Moving forward, we will aim to have 50% of our guests represent BIPOC perspectives, and of those, we would like at least half of our guests to identify as Black.
- Highlight a more diverse range of makers in our communications
We will take advantage of our opportunity to celebrate makers in marginalized and underrepresented niches of our broader sewing community. We will champion causes and community members that fight against racism and discrimination. We will do this through mentions on our podcast, in our social media posts, and in our other communications.
- We will diversify our team and the partners we work with
In addition to a small number of team employees, Love to Sew occasionally works with contract workers on special projects. We look forward to actively soliciting engagement from BIPOC communities in both our salaried and contract hiring practices.
If you have additional suggestions on how we can improve our anti-racism action plan and be better allies, please reach out to us at hello@lovetosewpodcast.com.
