! Yes, spool pin! My machine came with an extra spool pin but I’ve lost it somewhere. I need to get a replacement. The replacement spool pin for my machine (a Janome QC6260 ’cause I used to only do quilting but now I’m trying to sew knit garments and I need to make a twin needle to happen on my machine!!). Have you guys had any luck with buying ‘off brand’ replacement parts. For example, the Janome replacement is $35 but I can get a generic one that fits on the bobbin winder for $10. What do you think?
I think that if the part is something for the outside of the machine (not affecting things internally) than off-brand is fine! I have bought off-brand feet and even a cord and plug. A spool pin will probably be ok, too!
Hi Ladies,
Love your podcast so much. I listen to it while I sew – so nice!
I want to comment on the start/stop button discussion. I had a Brother Project Runway machine that had this button along with a slider bar that would control the speed. No need to use a foot pedal at all if you don’t want to. I tried it and couldn’t get used to it – but I think if I would practice it more it might be pretty neat. I recently upgraded to a Babylock Crescendo since it would be good for both garment sewing and machine quilting (should I ever find time for that) and it also has the Start/Stop button and speed slide bar feature. Just thought I’d share that.
Thanks so much for your podcasts –love them! There aren’t any sewing groups in my local area and I really appreciate you guys. I no longer feel like I’m existing in my own little bubble.

Hi Celeste! What exactly is the model number for this machine?
Listening to this today. I bought the EXACT same Kenmore at a garage sale in a cabinet. Paid $35US and it had just been serviced so it was completely clean inside and out. Sews like a trooper. I LOVE this machine. I also sew on a finicky Elna that I am about to replace with a Bernina 350PE (can’t wait). My Kenmore is the love of my life, and I recommend for anyone looking for a GREAT inexpensive machine.
Amazing! Thank you so much for this feedback, Celeste! ❤️
