Whilst I love Instagram as a place for inspiration I have to disagree with you about it being a great place for advice. It really depends on how many followers you have. I have tried on a few occasions to get advice on a make I’d like to improve, or a fabric I’m not sure what to use for, and it has been the social media equivalent of tumbleweed. It is really demoralising when you go from feeling like you are part of this amazing community, to realising that actually noone really knows that you exist. I slight exaggeration, maybe, but it is hard to build up a following when you have so many other demands on time, and without followers the IG algorithms is a bit of a Catch-22 – it doesn’t really help you to build more followers. Sorry for the whinge, I love IG really, this is just a minor sore point with me! xxxxx

Hi Linda! Thanks for sharing your point of view. You are right, it is much easier to solicit feedback the more followers you have. We hope you continue to sewcialize on IG and build up your community of fellow makers! Thanks again <3

Absolutely LOVE your podcast and bonus podcast! So much in this one, will have to listen again… don’t mind it.

  3. Emma says:

I have heard that will people with a lot of followers will put there account on private before they go live. This will keep the creepy persons away. And they will go public afterwards.

    Hi Helen & Caroline

I’m a newbie to sewing & listener to your podcast, I’m hooked already! I’ve just started listening to sewcializing 2.0, the listener question at the start about feeling demotivated really struck a cord being new to sewing myself & so much so I wanted to make a comment (I rarely comment).

My very first thought listening to her question was from a quote I constantly refer to is: “Don’t Compare Your Beginning to Someone Else’s Middle”. Easier said than done I know but this has helped me countless times to remind myself to stop & be proud.

    Take care

    Deanie
