Amazing episode! Thanks for sharing! I am still new to your podcast so not sure if you have had an episode geared for the very beginner sewer. I have done some sewing and have fabrics ready to go but am petrified of getting a pattern as they are usually too hard to follow. Looking for something for the home or my six year old daughter to start. Any ideas? Thanks!!!

    1. Helen Wilkinson & Caroline Somos says:

Hi Sonya! We have a beginner episode coming up in the next couple of weeks! You may want to check out Mimi G’s Sew It Academy for beginner sewing lessons 🙂 Good luck! Welcome to the wonderful world of sewing!

I thoroughly enjoyed this episode! So many great recommendations for me to check out! Thank you for sharing with us.

    A couple recommendations for you:

Pure Anada Beauty and Skincare products. I LOVE their make-up, especially their very wide range of eye shadow colours as well as their pressed mineral foundation. http://www.pureanada.ca/

The other one is in the games category. It’s a fashion game called “Covet Fashion” and as someone who loves clothes, it’s perfect for me, and I actually have found some sewing inspiration there. You enter a challenge by “buying” clothes to create an outfit for your model, then everyone votes, and if you get a high enough vote you can win in-game clothes to enter more challenges and create more outfits.

    1. Helen Wilkinson & Caroline Somos says:

Thanks Quinn! We will be looking into those!

Always look forward to your podcast ladies! Caroline, I use AnyList too and if you haven’t tried the paid version yet – it is so worth it. You can directly import online recipes in an instant vs. copy paste copy paste, and then just click ingredients to add to your grocery list and you can add meals to a calendar to plan out your week. Definitely in my top 5 favorite apps! Excited to check out some of your favorites

    1. Helen Wilkinson & Caroline Somos says:

      Thanks for the tip, Kelcey!

  4. E says:

Yes! So excited that you are learning to knit! I love both and recommend Fringe Association – lots of beautiful inspiration and tips, and as she also sews, she blogs about her sewing journey and documents her handmade wardrobe process throughout each season.

    1. Helen Wilkinson & Caroline Somos says:

Thank you! We love Fringe Association, her blog is so beautiful!

I had to pause the podcast to share my favorite thimble!! I’ve done a ton of hand sewing, more than machine sewing, and the thimble I can’t live without is a very sleek fitted leather one with a slit for your fingernail. This is the most similar I could find online, not sure if it’s the exact same one:
    https://www.amazon.com/Canvas-Corp-Leather-Nimble-Thimble/dp/B0018N2FT2
It doesn’t get sweaty and slide off my finger. I love love love this thimble and use it every time I sew anything by hand, even a couple of stitches.

    1. Helen Wilkinson & Caroline Somos says:

Oooo, thanks Elizabeth! That thimble looks awesome. We love the soft ones because they fit so much better! Thanks for sharing.

  6. Claudia says:

Hey girls. I could only sew scarves like a couple of months ago but i managed to sew a sweater. Its super easy and quick. Its the wonderwool sweater from wool and the gang. Its a free pattern and they have a youtube video showing you step by step process and you knit with chunky knitting needles. Super fun!.
I made one basically in a week but that was with knitting an hour a day and with unravelling and starting over lol. You can see my version on instagram : sew.claudia
Love your podcast. Keep up the great work!

Thanks Claudia! We will have to check out your sweater and that pattern! Thanks for sharing. <3

  7. Sarah Williams says:

    Hey Guys,
I think you would enjoy author Louise Penny, the Inspector Gamache series, which is set in Canada.
    Love your pod cast!
    Sarah

    1. Helen Wilkinson & Caroline Somos says:

Hi Sarah! Thanks so much for that recommendation! We will check it out.

  8. G says:

If you’re into true crime, you should listen to Sword and Scale. I’m hooked… Also, did you see the lovely dress pattern that Carolyn from Handmade by Carolyn released *drool*?

    1. Helen Wilkinson & Caroline Somos says:

Too funny, Caroline loves that show but we didn’t have room for all of her true crime obsessions 😛 Thanks for the recommendation! That dress is amazing, too!

  9. Vivian says:

Hi ladies, love your podcast! You asked for knitting recommendations, and I immediately thought of Tin Can Knits. Just google them, and you’ll find lots of inspiration. Their Simple Collection is geared toward novice knitters, and they have a lot of excellent tutorials to help build your skills. Welcome to the knitting world!

    1. Helen Wilkinson & Caroline Somos says:

Thank you! Several people have mentioned them to us! It seems like they have so many great patterns and resources! Thanks for recommending them to us <3

  10. Vicki Halliday says:

    Hi Ladies!
I am loving your podcast & savouring catching up the older episodes. I enjoy your easy chatting, respectful interview techniques & laughter.

My question is about Tweed & Greet, which I follow on Bloglovin but I cannot read her words. I have tried to find a translator website or similar but haven’t cracked it yet. How do you read her blog? Please don’t tell me you can read German. 🙄
Thanks for all the awesome & keep on doing it!
    Love, Vicki Xx

    1. Helen Wilkinson & Caroline Somos says:

Hi Vicki! Thanks for listening! I (Helen) use Google chrome when browsing online and it translates pages automatically for you. It isnt always perfect, but I can get the idea and the pictures are universal! I hope that helps 🙂

  11. Mary Ellen says:

I’m a knitter and sewist. Mostly quilts for the last few years. Go to Ravelry.com for all things knitting. It is THE place to search for free and pay for patterns and a full community to be apart of. Good luck on the hat!

    1. Helen Wilkinson & Caroline Somos says:

      Thanks Mary Ellen!

  12. Ms. Bear says:

Thank you for the lovely gift of listening to your conversations with each other and other makers! I just found out about your blog, and I’ve been listening to various episodes all day. Listening to audiobooks and podcasts is one of my great pleasures, and I also like true crime. I’d like to recommend WEST CORK (my favorite), CRIMINAL, & SOMEONE KNOWS SOMETHING.

Okay. Back to work and another episode.

    1. Helen Wilkinson & Caroline Somos says:

Thank you! I (Caroline) am working my way through West Cork, it’s great!

  13. Anne Marie Draganowski says:

Organza press cloth…green meatless balls… tv…AND some super fun sewing talk? How did I deserve all this awesome all in one day?? Thanks!

    1. Helen Wilkinson & Caroline Somos says:

Yay! We are so happy to hear you enjoyed this episode!
