OUR STORY

We first met in 2016 thanks to the online sewing community! We were both sewing and sharing our handmade clothing on social media and we found each other through sewing hashtags. Once we realized we both lived in Vancouver, we knew we had to meet up!

After a marathon discussion about patterns, fabrics, hopes, and dreams, it was clear we were meant to be friends. We made plans to meet up again for several crafty hangouts, including macrame, tapestry weaving, and, of course, sewing!

One fateful day, Caroline messaged me, Helen, and asked, “Do you want to start a sewing podcast”? I replied with an all caps “YES!” immediately and we got to work.

We began meeting every Friday to discuss all things podcasting, from the basics like how to record audio to the details, like our website and our brand. We had no idea what we were doing, but we divvied up tasks and got things done! It felt so good to work together on such an exciting project and we couldn’t wait to share it with the sewing community. It took about 6 months to get everything ready and we launched the show in August of 2017. Just over a year after we first met!

OUR SHOW

We love to sew, and we love to share stories from our community! We get emails every day from dedicated listeners who discover our podcast and it helps them to feel less alone. Sewing is mostly a solitary hobby, and there are a lot of emotions and struggles that go along with it! We love that we can help fellow makers feel connected and encouraged in their creative endeavours.

As small business owners, we really enjoy hearing stories from indie designers, shop owners, and makers! If you have any interest in becoming an entrepreneur yourself, our guests will surely inspire you. If you simply want to enjoy sewing as a hobby, that’s great too! Our episodes are a mix of technical sewing advice, inspirational storytelling, unpacking feelings around sewing and creating, and loads of words of encouragement.

Love to Sew is upbeat, welcoming, and joyful! We strive to make our listeners feel seen and heard, and most of all, inspired to sew!

As a podcast of influence, Love to Sew has the opportunity to amplify marginalized voices in our community. We take this role seriously and are committing to this anti-racism action plan for our show and all other communications.
